Dr. Tommy PerkinsInstructor: Dr. Thomas Perkins

Instructor: Dr. Perkins is a Professor in the Department of Agriculture. He received his doctorate from Texas Tech University with primary emphasis in the genetics of live animal ultrasonography of beef cattle. His undergraduate and master’s degree were received from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. He also holds distinction as a Professional Animal Scientist (PAS) as certified by the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS). Dr. Perkins teaches in the animal sciences with primary courses in introductory animal science, live animal evaluation, animal breeding and beef production.

Dr. Perkins is an Ultrasound Guidelines Council (UGC) certified field and laboratory ultrasound technician. His body composition research in beef cattle, using live animal ultrasound, affords travel to more than twenty states (from Texas to Wyoming and all states between) in the U.S. and five countries (Canada, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica and Venezuela) abroad.

Dr. Perkins serves as advisor to the MSU Block and Bridle Club, Livestock Judging Club and the Missouri State Bear Cattle Company. Additionally, he manages the breeding cattle enterprise at MSU and is in charge of every facet of production from breeding and selection to marketing.

Currently Dr. Perkins is serving as the President-elect of the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association and holds membership with the American Society of Animal Sciences, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and American Angus Association.
