Computer Information Systems
CIS 326 899, 3 hrs
Database Management Systems Concepts and Design
Prerequisite: CIS 321 or concurrent enrollment; and undergraduate business majors must be admitted to COBA. Study of database management concepts and techniques. Emphasis on data modeling using various data models such as semantic object, entity-relationship, relational, hierarchical, and network. Discussion and application of SQL to develop and query databases. Additional topics include database administration, study of micro and mainframe DBMS such as SQL/DS (DB2), client-server database environment, and distributed databases. Completion of a major study project is required.

Instructor:
Dr. Rajeev Kaula
Dr. Rajeev Kaula is a Professor in the CIS department at Missouri State University. Dr. Kaula has a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Binghamton University, State University of New York, Binghamton (1990), MS in Information Systems from Roosevelt University (1983), MBA from Banaras Hindu University, India (1980), and a BA in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University, India (1978). Dr. Kaula has taught numerous classes in CIS ranging from Introduction to Computers and Programming Languages, to Systems Analysis, Databases, and Data Management at Missouri State University and State University of New York, Binghamton. He has also worked previously as a software designer at Uptron Digital Systems, India. Presently his primary research interests are data management, business intelligence, open information systems, distributed decision support systems, computer integrated manufacturing, and knowledge based systems. |
