Communication

COM 513 899, 3 hrs
Ethical Issues in Communication
This is a Master of Science in Administrative Studies Applied Communication option area course. Ethical theories and justification models are studied and then related to ethical decision making in a variety of communication contexts, including interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, and public communication. The course will examine the components of good ethical decision making in communication, as well as obstacles that can stand in the way of responsible choices.

susan watersInstructor: Dr. Susan Waters

Dr. Susan Waters is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Missouri State University and academic advisor for the Public Relations Student Society of America chapter. She has been at Missouri State University since 2004 teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations, ethics, communication and aging, and applied research methods. She received a 2007 award for “supportive faculty” from the Greek community in recognition of achievements as an educator and a 2006 award for outstanding faculty member of the academic community by the Theta Chi Fraternity. While at Missouri State, Waters has obtained three research grants amounting to over $10,000 and presented some of her research at a conference in Bonn, Germany, in the summer of 2006. Her research interests include exploring aging in the media, and examining ethical development of persons in service-learning, non-profits, and for-profit businesses. Waters was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, earned her B.A. from Missouri Southern State University, her M.A. from Pittsburg State University in Kansas, and her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. In addition to teaching at Missouri State University, Waters taught at Pittsburg State University and Missouri Southern State University.
