Communication
COM 618, 3 hrs
Applied Communication Research Methods
This course is a requirement for the Applied Communication option of
the Master of Science
in Administrative Studies. In-depth examination of a specific applied
communication research methodology including: survey research, media criticism,
communication audits, in-depth interviewing, and focus group interviewing.
Topic will vary semester to semester. May be repeated but only 3 hours
will count toward the degree.

Carey Adams is Associate Professor and Head of the Department
of Communication. His research and teaching interests are in the
areas
of organizational communication, interpersonal influence, and computer-mediated
communication. He has a particular interest in nonprofit organizations
and volunteer settings. Dr. Adams' recent research projects include
a communication assessment of a 3,000-employee school district,
an examination of the impact of computer-mediated communication
on student-teacher relationships, and a critique of interpersonal
communication research that appears in the recently released book,
Communication and Community, edited by Gregory Shepherd and Eric
Rothenbuehler. He recently received a university-wide award for
excellence in teaching. His degrees are from the University of
Kansas
(Ph.D.), Baylor University (M. A.), and William Jewel College (B.
A.), all in communication.
