Communication

COM 618 899, 3 hrs
Applied Communication Research Methods
This course is a requirement for the Applied Communication option of the Master of Science in Administrative Studies. In-depth examination of a specific applied communication research methodology including: survey research, media criticism, communication audits, in-depth interviewing, and focus group interviewing. Topic will vary semester to semester. May be repeated but only 3 hours will count toward the degree.

Dr. Samuel DyerInstructor: Dr. Samuel Coad Dyer

Dr. Samuel Coad Dyer is Assistant Professor of Public Relations at Missouri State University. Sam has a Ph.D. in Communications with a major in Public Relations from the The University of Tennessee (1991), a Master of Arts degree in Communication from Eastern New Mexico University (1986) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a functional major in Marketing from Central Missouri State University (1985). At Southwest Missouri State University his primary research interests are public relations, issue management and crisis communications.

Sam has over 10 years of experience in public relations and business consulting. He has recently completed consulting projects with Carter Holt Harvey Plastics, Hesketh Henry, The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management, The Manawatu Sport Foundation, and many others. He has published extensively in the communication and public relations literature. Sam just finished a five year stint as a Senior Lecturer in Management Communication in the School of Management Studies at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. He has taught at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky and at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Originally from Marshall, Missouri. Sam resides in Springfield, Missouri with his wife Trish and two children Sophia and Synthia.
