General Education Program

HRA 215 899, 3 hrs
Introduction to Lodging Management
Prerequisite: HRA 210 or permission. A fundamental study of standard practices and procedures used in the management of hotels and motels. Practical examples are used to familiarize students with methods that guest service agents and managers use during the reservation, registration, and collection procedures.

Missouri residents: $2765 per credit hour
Non-Missouri residents: $275 per credit hour

Instructor: Dr. Dan Crafts

Dr. Crafts has been a professor at Missouri State University for the past twelve years. During this time he has been the professor for lodging management in the MSU Hospitality and Restaurant Administration program. His professional lodging management experience includes the general manager level. He is active in professional association activities for the lodging industry where he has held positions such as the Treasurer for the Oklahoma Hotel and Motel Association (six years), and a member of the Small Property Advisory Council for the American Hotel and Lodging Association. He also conducts workshops in cooperation with the Bed and Breakfast Inns of Missouri Association for individuals who aspire to be entrepreneurs in the lodging industry. Dr. Crafts emphasizes the entrepreneurial process throughout his course content. In 2003 he was named an Entrepreneurial MOOT CORP® Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Crafts was the lodging management professor for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration at Oklahoma State University for eight years prior to joining the MSU Hospitality and Restaurant Administration program.
