Instructor:
Dr. Bethany Walker
Professor Walker teaches Middle Eastern history courses at Missouri State. Both a historian and archaeologist by training, she has been doing fieldwork in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Greece, and Cyprus for the last twenty years. She currently directs two archaeological projects in Jordan and takes students with her each season. Her research interests today focus on the relationship between local society and imperial states in the late medieval Islamic world and environmental issues in the modern Middle East. Walker received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1998 and did her Arabic training in Cairo. An active scholar, her research has been published in numerous historical and archaeological venues in the U.S. and abroad. In her “free” time, she enjoys travel, hiking, tennis, and following international news and politics. |
