Industrial Management

IDM 456 899, 3 hrs
Industrial Supervision
Prerequisite: 53 hours and undergraduate industrial management majors must be admitted to program.
A study of the role of the supervisor and the management concepts and techniques that may be utilized to optimize the productivity of a industrial enterprise. Leadership and team building roles of the supervisor.

Mr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Management. He holds a Masters Degree from Central Missouri State University and has attained the CIRM (Certified in Integrated Resource Management) certification.

Mr. Smith teaches a variety of courses within the Industrial Management curriculum including Management and Control of Quality, Facility Planning and Work Design, Industrial Supervision,Production Planning and Control, plus numerous special topics. He also coordinates the Cooperative Education in Technology program for the department.

Mr. Smith serves as a consultant and trainer in the areas of quality systems, productivity improvement, facility planning, work measurement, project management, production and inventory management and quality systems. He has served as consultant to ten companies seeking ISO 9000 Certification and one company implementing QS9000. Seven of those companies received certification on their first external audit and the other three are still in process. Have also served as a Missouri Quality Award Senior Examiner. Mr. Smith also has six years of experience as a time study Engineer establishing incentive standards and has guided three area companies in the development and implementation of work measurement systems.

Mr. Smith is an active member of several professional organizations, including, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Production Inventory Control Society, and the National Association of Industrial Technology. He has served as an officer in the Springfield Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and currently serves as Chair of the Region Chairs Council for the International Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

When away from a busy work schedule, Mr. Smith spends time with his grandchildren, loves to woodwork, ride ATV's across his small acreage just north of Springfield and works on his water gardens.
