Instructional Media Technology

IMT 562 898, 3 hrs
Educational Applications of Computers for Teaching

Using microcomputers in educational settings. Includes the investigation of computer terminology software in word processing, data base, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, record management and multimedia applications. Special emphasis will be given to selection of appropriate programs for specific instructional activities as well as computer interfaced peripheral devices. The use of technological approaches for teaching and learning process that will help students become more effective and efficient in their instructional responsibilities with diverse students.

Dr. Barbara OrdeInstructor: Dr. Barbara Michels

Dr. Michels is an Assistant Professor of Instructional Media Technology at Missouri State University in Springfield. She was the Instructional Design Coordinator and Media Center Coordinator for Chadron State College in Nebraska where she was responsible for faculty and staff training and development as well as Media Center operations. Before that, she taught at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. It was there she received her MS in Instructional Technology and Ph.D. in Education.

Although Dr. Michels' interests have always been closely linked to education, she has had various experiences as an instructional designer, teacher, and Museum Director. Her BS degree is in art education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She finds the art-media connection to be very useful in the instructional technology field.

Since starting in this field, Dr. Michels has presented at conferences around the country. She has presented several times at the Association for Educational Communications & Technology, the International Visual Literacy Association and for many college and local organizations.
