Health, Physical Education and Recreation

PED 698 899, 6 hrs
Field Experience in Sports Management
Prerequisite: completion of the application process for the field experience and 12 credits in the certificate program. This course is the field experience requirement for the Master of Science in Administrative Studies - Sports Management Certification. The field experience is the culminating experience for all students in the certificate program. The field experience provides students the opportunity to become directly involved in the application of organizational and sport management skills in sport related venues. Possible sites include: professional or club sports teams, university athletic departments, sports sales, sports agencies, professional and university sports facilities. Selection is dependent on the students’ background and career expectations. All required courses must be completed in order to be eligible. The field experience can be completed during the fall, spring, or summer and requires at least 400 hours. All field experiences must be approved by the internship coordinator.

Dr. Jerry MastersonInstructor: Dr. Gerald Masterson

Gerald Masterson, Ph.D., is a professor in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department at Missouri State University. He heads and teaches in the newly developed Sports Management Certificate Program. His research interest have included anaerobic power performance and training adolescents. He has published that work in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. He also sponsors a track and field coaches’ clinic, runs a track and cross-country camp, in order to decimate information and collect data.
