Dr. David W. Stockburger is an Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Missouri State University, teaching mainly graduate and undergraduate statistics courses. A baby-boomer, he graduated with an undergraduate degree from Ohio University in 1969 and a master's and Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University in 1971 and 1975, respectively. His specialty area in graduate school was mathematical psychology with a minor area of mathematical statistics. He joined the faculty at Missouri State University in 1974 and has remained there ever since.

Dr. Stockburger has been introducing students to computers since he began teaching at Missouri State University. Starting with card readers and hard-copy printed output, moving to remote terminals, personal computers, and finally to Internet-connected personal computers, he has exposed students to computers at many different levels. Writing equipment grants and serving as a faculty sponsor, he supervised a university bulletin-board system from 1988 to 1994, introducing many students and others in the community to a networked computer experience before the Internet became fashionable.

He started writing an introductory statistics text in 1978 with the eventual goal of distributing the text using computers. He made his text available on the web in 1996 to demonstrate how this medium could be used in education. Recently the second web edition of this text is being distributed as a prototype college e-text by Atomic Dog Publishing.

He enjoys traveling, hiking, golfing, and cooking. He is married to LeAnna DeAngelo, who is a writer and Psychologist. She has recently completed a book titled The Psychology of Germs and Contagion for MIT Press.
