Contemporary Issues in Special Education
Prerequisite: admission to the graduate program for Special Education or permission of the director.
Analysis of trends, issues, and research in the field of special education will be reviewed and discussed. A comprehensive overview of local, state, and federal legislation and the impact on our public school special educational programs for children with disabilities will be discussed and analyzed. Historical and current litigation involving children with disabilities will be reviewed and discussed.

Instructor: Dr. Jane Doelling
Dr. Doelling specializes in coursework in assessment of learning problems and autism spectrum disorders. She is the Coordinator of the Graduate, Special Education Alternative Certification Track (Mild/Moderate Disabilities) and a supervisor for a multidisciplinary clinic supporting children with pervasive developmental disorders and their families. Her research focus includes program evaluation to support personnel preparation and evaluation of outcomes specific to treatment in the area of autism spectrum disorders. |
