Is your course "Blended" or "Online"?
If you're unsure if your course development and deployment will be considered a "Blended" or "Online" format, we've included the definitions below:
-
Blended – Makes use of both face-to-face (f2f) and electronically mediated instruction. Blended courses may take a number of forms, such as 1) electronically mediated instruction that replaces one or more f2f meetings/week but does not eliminate them completely, or 2) alternate weeks of f2f and electronically mediated classes. * If a class is blended, then departments must provide information to students prior to registration to indicate when they will be required to come to campus and how much of the course will be taught online or through other electronically mediated instruction. This can be done through use of the “comment” field in the section record, use of a permission requirement (i.e., information would be provided to students as part of the permission process), or a combination of both.
-
Online – Delivers content through electronically mediated instruction with either no meetings in a single geographic location where instruction is conducted or alternative options for students who are not proximal to location where required meetings occur. Students can take exams at a proctored center on their own time, in their own city of location or on campus. Such arrangements will be made by the faculty member or by the test coordinator of Missouri State Online and Instructional Technologies. A class may meet synchronously from a distance using technology (web cam meetings, chats, discussion boards, etc.) and still be considered online. To have an online course with f2f meetings or synchronous meetings, ** departments must provide information to students prior to registration to indicate when they will be required to meet synchronously and how much of the course will be taught f2f or synchronously. This can be done in Banner, either through use of the “comment” field in the section record or by listing the day and time the course meets every week and leaving it as INET delivery type.
