Getting Ready for Classes - Fall 2008

Computer Setup

We recommend that you set up your computer to meet the following requirements:

1. You need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to allow access to the Internet.

2. Software

Internet browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater, Netscape Navigator 4.7 (java version) or greater, or Netscape Communicator 6.0 or greater.

"Your Browser Information" below helps you determine your browser version. If you can read the text in the table, your browser is compatible. If you cannot read the text, proceed to the Browser Update page to update your browser.

If java is not enabled, please call the Missouri State Online Helpdesk at 1-888-767-8444.

Browser Plug-ins

Required for all students:
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Real Player
Word and PowerPoint Viewers
Excel Viewer

Additional plug-ins:
Flash Player
QuickTime: Windows and Macintosh

Virus Protection software (highly recommended)

Virus software information
Norton Antivirus | McAfee | AVG

3. Hardware (Minimum requirements)

It is recommended that the computer you use for your online classes is for your private use. This will help decrease technical issues.

Windows Computer

Intel Pentium 4 processor or equivalent
512MB or more of RAM if using Windows 2000 or XP
56Kbps modem (Broadband recommended)
32 MB video card
Hard Drive disk space. (This requirement will vary depending on which class you are enrolled in. The disk space is for downloading articles and installing required plug-in software.)
24x CD-ROM Drive (Some classes may provide supplemental materials via CD's)
Sound card and speakers
Printer - Students who wish to print online resources will need a printer with this capability.

Apple Macintosh   

Macintosh G4 (or faster)
Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later
512 MB RAM
56Kbps modem (Broadband recommended)
