Hi, my name is Dr. Sam Dyer and I'll be teaching your course COM 613 Media Resources for Organizations. In this brief presentation here, I'd like to talk to you about the assignments for the course, and tell you where to focus in on the course to get the result that you wanted from our class together. If you take a look at the syllabus on page two from the web site, you'll see the list of assignments and what I like to go over with you today. The focus of the course is 30% of your assessment is in the discussion forum. Every week, your discussion forum will be assessed, and that' where the focus of the course is. Think of our discussion forum as a lecture and a discussion, and that's where I'll be answering your questions, we'll posting our assignments that we do there onto the discussion forum so we can get a good interaction going with the students. What you'll find is I'll be assessing mostly once a week, and sometimes twice a week and you'll see at the end of the discussion forum a hundred and plus messages. You'll going to be doing a lot of learning, a lot of discussion. That's the center of the course. 20% of your grade in the course are our weekly assignments. There will be about ten or eleven of those. I'll grade the top ten of those and get those back to you. Then another big focus on the course is an external project for a non-profit firm in the community where you live in, either you're here in southwest Missouri, Springfield, Missouri, Greene county or wherever you're living. That's 20% of your class mark, and that'll be a very exiting project. I'll help you to identify a local community organization to do work for. Then if you got a personal web page or a business web page now, I'll be evaluating that for 10% of the mark in the course. If you don't have a personal web page or a business web page now, I'll be working with you individually to help you develop your personal web page. Then, we'll have two tests, a 10% mid-term and a 10% final test, and that's the course work for the assignment or for the whole class. I think you'll really enjoy the class if you get involved in those discussions online.

Let's also, if we can, have some personal contact. If you've got trouble with assignments, call me at my home phone or call me in my office here at Southwest Missouri State University. If you're located in the Springfield area, drop by my office and let's meet personally. It's difficult in an Internet course to feel like you have an interaction with your faculty member. So let's work as much as we possibly can to increase the interaction between you and I so we can get you the result that you want from our class, COM 613, Media Resources for Organizations. I'm really looking forward to working with you online.
