IDM 456: Industrial Supervision Welcome to IDM 456 Industrial Supervision presented by the Department of Industrial Management here at Southwest Missouri State University. My name is Rathel R. (Dick) Smith, and most people simply call me Dick. I'll be guiding the study of industrial supervision through a series of assignments, exercises and quizzes. Challenges have never been greater for industrial supervisor. With competition at an all time high, survival of an organization directly depends on its capability to effectively utilize human resources. Changes in our culture and technology present three major challenges for industrial supervisors. First, supervisors must ensure that employee safety, health and security are provided while protecting human rights. Second, the need for employee development and training is complicated by the rapid change in technology. And third, experts agree that there's been a significant decline in employee loyalty replaced by employee self-interest. These and other challenges force industrial supervisors to become knowledgeable and dynamic leaders. Once this semester is completed, we will better understand the roles, responsibilities and challenges presented to leaders in the new millennium. Let me suggest that you take a few moments to review the materials you received in the packet and text for the course and sign on to SMSU eSchool Blackboard site and start the journey to become a great leader. |
