PSY 555: Developing Sport Team Leaders Hi, my name is Tom Kane. This course is offered in partnership with the National Wrestlers Coaches Association. It aims to bring best practices to coaches. It also aims to remind the values of sport teams to the values of broader educational systems. My goal in this class is to help you develop a leadership plan that considers leadership from the very top, that is by how you define precisely what it is that you want your team to stand for, to the very bottom, by the types of skills and techniques that you can bring to your team athletes so that they can support that climate. Ultimately this is a training the trainer type of a course. It's my job to help you become a better mentor of team leadership. In the process you will learn about leadership, you'll learn about ways to promote teamwork, and you will also learn about the best practices that support a motivational team climate, where hard work is the norm. A major project in this class is a leadership lesson plan that will provide you with a step-by-step roadmap to developing team leadership skills. To develop an optimal roadmap, I will need to make a request from you. I'm going to ask on several occasions that you read other coach's materials and provide them with feedback so that they can learn from your experiences as well as what I provide through instruction. It's my job to provide best practices of sport motivation and leadership, and it's your job to actively participate in the class so that other coaches can benefit from all coach's experiences. By the end of this class you will think about leadership in a new way. You will think about leadership as developing life skills in your team leader athletes and they'll take these skills wherever they may go and whatever position they may find themselves that involves groups and teamwork. Welcome again to the building sport team leadership course. My name is Tom Kane. |
